Aug 16 - The Bassment

Last night at the Bassment was decent, Vertical Struts totally pulled off the two-man sound and are cool guys (and girl) to boot. Paper Kites and O Jeh Lye La were also quite good, though a little more punk than I was in the mood for that particular Monday. Still, it's too bad the turnout was a little on the low side, but thanks to everyone who came out and in particular those who were there for our ... interesting ... set.
We were pretty disappointed in our own set, it just was sloppy and, as one friend diplmatically put it, "had a few rough spots". Arrows Forward/The Latest Age was a complete and utter write off and we made so many mistakes it was almost fun. Trevor from Vertical Struts commented that we looked like we were all having fun, so I guess that's something. And I think someone called my performance on Death of the Glorious Future "psychotic" which is cool, too. Maybe we were just due for a bad show. Oh, we also debuted The View From Teardrop Mtn, which, as a band, we've jammed on a few times and that's it. There are words and everything, but no structure to it yet. It went well for a jamming song, though.

We have a month until the next one, and though Todd is gone for a good part of it, and The Dutch for a few days, too, we'll get some practice in and a new song or two, and Sat, Sept 18, Amigos will be hoppin' with us & The Kettle Black.

Setlist: The View From Teardrop Mountain, Arrows Forward, The Latest Age, Sincerest Element, Rhythm of Life, Pinstripe Gin, Death of the Glorious Future, A Scattershot Genius, This Is The Way Life Grows, Silver City Surf

Aug 9 - Unitarian Centre

Great show last night. Parades Against Parades, In Medias Res, and National Monument really were great and helped put on - pardon my French - a heck of a show. We were all probably a little nervous as it was our first real show (with like-minded bands and audience) but it came out okay, at least I hope so.

The guys from the other bands were cool too, and it was great to meet everyone in person that I'd been talking to by email as well as the rest of the bands. We might go check out Despistado at the Ex today with some of the guys from National Monument, though I'm so bloody tired that I might just pass. We didn't get out of the Unitarian Centre until, after all the cleanup was done, about 2 AM. But it was fun and well worth it.

Setlist: Cactus (Pixies), A Scattershot Genius, This Is The Way Life Grows, Pinstripe Gin, Death of the Glorious Future, Silver City Surf, Rhythm of Life, The Sincerest Element, A-Line, Brigantine, Arrows Forward, The Latest Age
