The End is Nigh

It is my distinct pleasure to announce the death of Asterid as it has been known to many for decades and then millenia before that. Alright, so it's not really a pleasure, but it's not (necessarily) dead either. Let's call it a hiatus, of sorts. The Dutch, that crafty bassman, is off to Seattle in May, perhaps never to return to our city. Myself, I'm off to Europe at the beginning of May, hopefully returning later this year.

But you already knew that or else you probably aren't that concerned about it. Possibly both. Probably both. Fine. Both. Will Asterid resume when I get back? I don't know. Certainly not in its current form. But it's possible. For those few that did support us and come out to see us, we appreciate it greatly.

Before I go, I'm going to attempt to get some shows, demos, lyrics, and other paraphenilia posted as thanks to that select few. Some of the stuff is truly horrible. Perhaps it will help you to understand why the future is at best uncertain.

In any case, it was fun and we wish Dutch a lot of luck in Seattle. Maybe we'll see you in December.

"I Have Such News For You!"

A few items today. We're now officially booked at Amigo's Jan 21, and though I don't know for sure yet, I think this may be our first headlining gig. I'll be sure to let you know. If it is, we definitely need anyone and everyone who remotely enjoys our music to come out so that we know (and Amigos knows) that we can put on a successful show. If it's not, well, come out anyway. Why? Well, I should start a new paragraph for that...

... and here we are. Because.

OK, I've got more than that. We've got a whole load of new material to unleash upon you. Not just any old new material, either. Good stuff. Stuff that makes me say, "Meh, the old stuff was alright". I'm hoping you'll like it even half as much as I do. Four tracks, and if you weren't at our last show, that number is up to 6.

Plus, we've got a cool poster designed by none other than THE Dutch. Yeah, that Dutch. And most importantly, this is our first tour ever. Saturday, Jan 22, we're off to the fine city of Edmonton to peddle our wares and introduce them to the asterids. So you'll need to attend so you can, in good conscience, call your friends in Edmonton and bid them attend our show or miss at their own peril. Or at least send us off with some confidence.

If you're in Edmonton, of course, you may want to see us because we almost never tour and aren't all that likely to tour again in the near future. Plus, we're driving all the way out there. You can drive a few blocks, can't you? Can't you?!

So, two gigs this weekend. We don't know who we're playing with or much else about either show, but I'll let you know as soon as I do. I also attended the Teargas AGM last Sunday and have some cool news related to that, but it'll have to wait. See you next weekend!

The Year 2005

We've finally made it here. 2005. People no longer walk, they use jetpacks. The weekend extended to four days because of all the extra work those robots do for us. Cold fusion power has ended the world energy crisis and brought new peace to all. And flying cars have allowed billions of kilometres of hightway and freeway to be reclaimed and developed into parklands.

What a time to be alive!

Maybe we're not there yet, but it's not as bad as it may seem. Jetpacks - no; Segway - yes. Robots - no; Freedom from Robotic overlords- yes. Cold fusion - no; cold war 2 - yes. It's all a matter of perspective.

Anyway, whichever reality you choose to live in, welcome to 2005 and all the best to you. We're now back to it after a quiet (literally) Christmas season, we're getting songs polished for our tour and studio session, which we will attend when we're ready. The Edmonton date fast approaches, and we're still trying to pull off some sort of last minute Calgary spectacle, and perhaps another Saskatoon show for the end of the month.

Finally, there is the first AGM of Teargas on Sunday, which I hope to attend, discussing the future of the collective and throwing out ideas and projects for the coming year. The includes things like a Teargas Collective Mix from various Teargas artists and a showcase for sometime this spring or summer. Whether we're involved or not, both should be great and I would definitely keep an eye out.

End holographic transmission.
